News
leads circulating world wide on Monday afternoon claimed that 94 year
old Nelson Mandela has died. These came after a counterfeit twitter
account said
to be that of CNN journalist Piers Morgan initiated the
rumour that the legendary leader has died.
Mandela was hospitalised on Saturday.
According to the rumours in circulation, it is alleged that Mandela passed away in his sleep Monday afternoon.
The troll was quickly re-tweeted more than 1300 times.
Investigations found that the twitter account where this death hoax
originated has the same Twitter image as Morgan’s, revealing it being a
parody account using the handle @piersrnorgan.
Death hoaxes have been an almost norm for a long time with leaders such as Robert Mugabe being reported dead countless times.
South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma, has however assured the public
that Mandela is still in hospital in Pretoria where he is being treated
for a lung infection, his condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, the British National Party (BNP) leader Nick Griffin was
slammed for insensitive comments he reportedly made from his Twitter
account as he called Mandela “a murdering old terrorist.” The full
tweets read:”Saint #nelsonmandela on last legs it seems. Make sure to
avoid BBC when the murdering old terrorist croaks. It’ll be nauseating.
“Statesmen’ must be judged on results not rhetoric. Before Mandela,
South Africa was safe economic powerhouse. Now crime ridden basket case.
“No surprise #Mandela’s lungs are shot – all those burning tyres. Smoking necklaces very bad for the health.
“& while making politically incorrect observations on fires:
Remember that at least some Islamic building blazes will be insurance
jobs.”
Dear KIB readers
Lets Pray for Madiba as he is fondly called...
